Frequently asked questions
Getting Started
What can I expect in our first session?
Our first session is a quiet, conversational meeting — not a clinical intake. We'll talk about what's bringing you here, what feels heavy right now, and what you'd like to feel different. There's no formula. The main goal is for us to see if working together feels right. You don't need to come prepared. Just come.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you've found yourself wondering, you're probably ready. Therapy isn't reserved for crisis moments — it can be a space for growth, for understanding old patterns, or simply for being truly heard. If you're still unsure, a free 15-minute consultation call can help you decide without any pressure.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
There's no single answer. Some clients work with me for a few months around a specific concern; others stay longer as life unfolds. We set a rhythm that fits your needs and revisit it together as we go. You're always free to pause or end whenever it feels right.
What if I don't think we're a good fit?
That's okay — and important to say. Therapy works because of the relationship, not the technique. If we're not the right match, I'll help you find someone who is. Genuinely. No hard feelings.
Logistics & Fees
Do you take insurance?
I'm in-network with Aetna. For other plans, I'm out-of-network — clients pay directly and may seek partial reimbursement from their insurance using a superbill I provide. We'll walk through specifics during your consultation call.
What is your fee?
Session fees are discussed during the consultation call so I can tailor a recommendation to your needs (50-minute sessions, frequency, etc.). I aim to be transparent — there's no haggling, and there's no surprise.
How long are sessions?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Some clients prefer longer (75 or 90 minutes) for deeper work; we can discuss what feels right for you.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours of notice for cancellations. Sessions canceled with less notice are charged the full fee unless there's a genuine emergency. Life happens — please reach out and we'll find a way through it together.
The Therapy Process
How often will we meet?
Weekly is the most common rhythm, especially in the beginning when momentum matters. Some clients move to biweekly as things settle. We'll decide together based on what supports you.
Are sessions in-person or virtual?
Both. I offer secure, confidential video sessions for clients anywhere in California, and in-person visits when scheduling allows. Many clients use a mix depending on the week.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. Therapy is a confidential space, with a few narrow legal exceptions (imminent danger to self or others, abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, court order). I'll walk you through these in our first session so you know exactly what to expect.
Do you offer crisis support?
I'm not an emergency service. If you're in crisis between sessions, please call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or 911 for emergencies. I'll do what I can to support you in our scheduled time and within reasonable boundaries between sessions.
Have a question that isn't here?
A free, 15-minute consultation is the best place to ask. No pressure — just a kind first conversation.
